About This App

Autodesk Inventor Fusion is a free, entry-level 3D mechanical CAD modelling application designed for emerging engineers and design professionals. It features direct manipulation tools for creating and editing 3D models, with the ability to open and edit designs from most leading CAD software and incorporate them into new or existing projects. Inventor Fusion was positioned as Autodesk's first Mac-native mechanical modelling tool and emphasised an intuitive interface suited to the next generation of engineers and designers. The software was released as a technology preview in 2012 and supported interoperability between Mac and Windows CAD workflows.

Autodesk Inventor Fusion for Mac has been abandoned — the technology preview that was released in April 2012 ended support on January 1, 2013, over a decade ago. There is no native Apple Silicon build and there is no ongoing development. The Intel-only build still runs under Rosetta 2 today, but Apple is removing Rosetta in macOS 28 (September 2028), so this application will stop working on that release. If you need professional mechanical CAD on macOS, Autodesk now offers Fusion 360, a modern cloud-based CAD platform with native Apple Silicon support available through direct download or the Mac App Store. Fusion 360 is a full-featured parametric and direct modelling tool aimed at professionals and students and remains actively developed. Alternatively, FreeCAD is a free, open-source parametric 3D modeller with a native Apple Silicon build, suitable for mechanical design and compatible with many file formats, though it has a steeper learning curve. Begin planning a migration to one of these tools before September 2028.
