AutoUpdateHelper is a system daemon, not a standalone app, and cannot be updated separately. It is managed entirely by the Canon printer driver or utility software that installed it. To ensure you have the latest version of AutoUpdateHelper and address any Intel-only compatibility issues, update the parent Canon printer or device software through Canon's official support site. Visit support.canon.com, search for your specific printer or device model, and download the latest macOS driver and utility package available for your hardware. Follow Canon's installer to replace the existing software—this will automatically update the bundled AutoUpdateHelper daemon to the current version. If you are on an Apple Silicon Mac (M1/M2/M3), be aware that Canon has not yet released native Apple Silicon drivers for most of their consumer printer line; the current drivers run under Rosetta 2 emulation. Canon drivers will stop working entirely when Apple removes Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028), so monitor Canon's support site regularly for announcements of native builds. For basic printing on modern Macs, macOS's built-in AirPrint support may work without requiring Canon's proprietary drivers, though this limits access to scanner utilities and advanced printer settings.
