Zap PRAM
Zap PRAM is a macOS utility that clears the Parameter RAM (PRAM) and Non-Volatile RAM (NVRAM) on Intel Macs. It was designed to help troubleshoot hardware-related issues such as startup problems, display glitches, and peripheral connectivity issues by resetting low-level system firmware settings. The tool targets experienced Mac users and system administrators who need a quick way to perform a PRAM reset without manually restarting into recovery mode. Since the release date (January 2020), the app has not received updates, and more importantly, PRAM/NVRAM reset functionality has become obsolete on Apple Silicon Macs, which use a different firmware architecture.
Suggested Replacements
1 suggestionZap PRAM is no longer relevant for Apple Silicon Mac users and the app is abandoned with no native version. The PRAM/NVRAM reset utility is incompatible with Apple Silicon's firmware architecture—these Macs do not have PRAM in the traditional sense. Apple Silicon Macs instead use a different system for storing low-level settings, and firmware resets are handled through Recovery Mode (Command-Shift-Option-R) when needed. If you're experiencing startup or hardware issues on an Apple Silicon Mac, use the built-in Recovery Mode tools instead. For Intel Mac users still on Rosetta 2, Zap PRAM will continue to work but offers no advantage over Apple's native recovery tools.
