Osmos
Osmos is an award-winning indie puzzle game developed by Hemisphere Games that combines physics-based gameplay with ambient visuals and electronic music. Players control a small organism called a mote, growing by absorbing smaller motes while avoiding being absorbed by larger ones. Movement is achieved by ejecting matter, which propels you in the opposite direction but makes you smaller, creating strategic depth. The game features dreamlike, minimalist graphics and a hypnotic soundtrack that creates a meditative gaming experience. Originally released in 2009, Osmos won multiple Game of the Year awards and became popular across multiple platforms including Mac, PC, iOS, and Android.
Suggested Replacements
1 suggestionUnfortunately, Hemisphere Games appears to have largely stopped active development on Osmos, with the Mac version remaining Intel-only despite being over a decade old. The developer's website and social media presence have been minimal in recent years, suggesting the app is effectively abandoned for desktop platforms. Since Osmos has a very unique gameplay style combining physics-based movement with ambient puzzle elements, there isn't a direct replacement that captures the exact same experience. Your best option may be to continue running it under Rosetta 2 while it's available, or consider playing the iOS version on iPad if you have one, as mobile versions may have better long-term support.
