Digidesign Mbox 2

The Mbox 2 is a legacy audio interface that has not been actively supported by Avid (which acquired Digidesign) for many years — the hardware itself is over fifteen years old and no driver updates have been released for modern macOS versions. The PreferencePane component cannot be updated separately; it is bundled with the Mbox 2 driver package distributed by Avid. Unfortunately, Avid ceased offering driver support for the Mbox 2 around 2012–2015, meaning there is no native Apple Silicon build and no recent version that will install cleanly on modern macOS. The Intel-only driver will stop working entirely when Apple removes Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028). If you still rely on the Mbox 2 for audio I/O, consider upgrading to a modern USB audio interface with current native macOS driver support — Avid's own Fast Track interface line, Universal Audio Apollo, Focusrite Scarlett, Behringer U-Phoria, or MOTU interfaces all ship native Apple Silicon drivers and are actively maintained.
