About This App

Strobe2 is a premium polyphonic software synthesizer from ROLI, designed for sound design and music production in both standalone and plugin formats (AU, VST3, AAX). It features a carefully modeled analog-style oscillator (the Super Oscillator), vintage filter circuits, a powerful modulation matrix called TransMod, and a suite of effects including delays, reverbs, and distortion. Strobe2 is popular with electronic musicians, producers, and sound designers who appreciate its combination of authentic analog character with modern digital control. It supports MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) controllers like the ROLI Seaboard for expressive performance, and is often used within DAWs like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase and others.

ROLI ships Strobe2 as a Universal Binary, meaning a native Apple Silicon build does exist. However, the official ROLI support documentation confirms a known bug in the native version affecting one of the oscillators. Until ROLI resolves this bug, the manufacturer explicitly recommends running Strobe2 under Rosetta 2 instead — which paradoxically means staying with the Intel version even though a native build is available. This is a short-term workaround only. Check ROLI's support pages regularly for a bug-fix release that resolves the oscillator issue; once that is available, you can switch back to running Strobe2 natively. In the meantime, if you are hosting Strobe2 inside a DAW, right-click your DAW's application icon, select Get Info, tick "Open using Rosetta", and restart — the DAW and its plugins will then run the Intel version. Do not run your DAW natively and expect the native Strobe2 plugin to work correctly. As of September 2028, macOS 28 will remove Rosetta 2 entirely, so ROLI must ship a bug-free native build before that deadline, or Strobe2 will stop functioning on new Macs.
