Trim Enabler
Trim Enabler is a macOS utility that enables TRIM support for non-Apple solid-state drives (SSDs). TRIM is a system command that allows the operating system to inform the drive which data blocks are no longer needed after file deletion, enabling the drive to perform garbage collection and maintain long-term performance. By default, macOS only enables TRIM on Apple-manufactured SSDs; Trim Enabler extends this functionality to third-party drives including Samsung, Kingston, Crucial and other popular brands. It is essential for users who have installed aftermarket SSDs or upgraded their machines with non-Apple storage to avoid performance degradation over time.
Suggested Replacements
1 suggestionTrim Enabler is no longer actively maintained and a native Apple Silicon build does not appear to exist. Modern versions of macOS (10.15 Catalina and later) have gradually expanded TRIM support to include many third-party SSD manufacturers natively, without requiring additional utilities. If you are running a recent macOS on Apple Silicon, check System Information (Apple menu → About This Mac → System Report → Storage) to confirm whether TRIM is already enabled for your drive — many users find it is enabled by default. If TRIM remains disabled on a non-Apple drive and you need to enable it, contact the drive manufacturer to see if they provide official macOS tools or firmware updates, or consult macOS documentation for your specific drive model. Trim Enabler itself is no longer recommended due to its abandonment and lack of Apple Silicon support.
