Autoupdate
Autoupdate is a helper component of the Sparkle software update framework, an open-source library used by thousands of macOS applications to deliver automatic updates to users. Sparkle handles the detection, download and installation of app updates in the background with minimal user intervention. The Autoupdate helper process runs as a background service to check for updates on behalf of the parent application. Most users never interact with Autoupdate directly — it works transparently behind the scenes in applications that integrate the Sparkle framework.
Suggested Replacements
1 suggestionAutoupdate is a helper component, not a standalone application. It is part of the Sparkle framework that is bundled into other macOS apps. If you are seeing Autoupdate in your Rosetta list, it means one or more of your installed applications uses Sparkle for updates. The native Apple Silicon status of Autoupdate does not matter on its own — what matters is whether the parent application that contains it has been updated to a native Apple Silicon build. Check which of your installed apps use Sparkle (you can usually find this in the app's About window or preferences), then update those apps individually. Sparkle itself has supported Apple Silicon and Universal Binaries for several years, so any app using a recent version of Sparkle will include the native arm64 update helper automatically.
