tyke
Tyke is a lightweight menu bar utility that provides a simple scratch pad for quick note-taking directly from your Mac's menu bar. Instead of opening a full note-taking app or document editor, users can click the Tyke icon in the menu bar and jot down quick thoughts, reminders, or ideas without unnecessary complexity. It's designed for those who want a minimal, frictionless way to capture temporary notes or snippets of text—perfect for users who prefer simplicity over feature-rich applications and value fast access to a notepad throughout their day.

1 suggestionTyke (version 1.0) is no longer actively maintained and has been marked as unmaintained in the Homebrew Cask repository. There is no native Apple Silicon or Universal Binary version available. Since the app is abandoned and unlikely to receive updates, we recommend switching to **Stickies** (included free with macOS) or **Notes** (Apple's modern note-taking app). Both are fully native on Apple Silicon, receive regular updates, and offer similar quick-access note-taking functionality. If you prefer a third-party menu bar scratchpad with ongoing development, **Quill** or **Tot** are excellent actively-maintained alternatives. Given Rosetta 2 support will eventually end, moving to a natively supported app now will ensure your note-taking workflow remains uninterrupted.
