About This App

FileBot is a Java-based batch file renaming and media organisation utility for macOS, Windows and Linux, widely used by home users, media enthusiasts and system administrators to automatically rename and organise TV shows, movies, music and other files according to customisable patterns. It integrates with online databases to fetch metadata, supports scripting and automation workflows, performs format conversions via built-in tools, and can process large batches of files with rules rather than one-by-one manual renaming. FileBot is available as a free CLI tool or as a paid commercial license for both command-line and GUI versions.

FileBot ships separate native builds for Intel and Apple Silicon, and the vendor has actively maintained both since at least May 2026. Visit the download page at filebot.net/download.html and select the macOS installer specifically labelled "FileBot_5.2.1_arm64.pkg" — this is the native Apple Silicon build. Do NOT download the Intel x64 version, as that will continue to rely on Rosetta 2 translation. The native build offers noticeably better performance and will continue to work after Apple removes Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (late 2027). If you prefer installation via Homebrew, the brew cask package also serves the correct architecture automatically on Apple Silicon Macs. Existing FileBot settings, licenses and organisational rules carry over without any manual migration when you switch from the Intel build to the native version.
