This helper tool is updated automatically whenever you update the main Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote). There is no separate installation or update process for the licensing helper itself — it is bundled with and managed by Microsoft Office. To ensure you have the native Apple Silicon version of both Office and the helper tool, use one of these methods to update your Office installation: (1) If you have Microsoft 365 installed, open any Office app, go to Help (top menu) → Check for Updates and let Microsoft AutoUpdate pull the latest native build. (2) If you have Office LTSC or Office 2021, visit office.com, sign in, go to My Account, and download the latest installer from there — the download page automatically serves the Universal Binary on M-series Macs. (3) If Office was installed via the Mac App Store, open the App Store app, go to Updates, and update Office from there. All three paths will fetch the native Apple Silicon build. Once your Office apps update, the licensing helper will automatically be updated to the matching native version. You do not need to manually interact with the helper tool — simply keeping your Office installation current through its normal update mechanism is all that is required.
