NTFS-3G

NTFS-3G is a PreferencePane component — a system extension bundled within macOS System Settings — rather than a standalone application. There is no separate app to update. The NTFS-3G driver itself is actively maintained as open-source software and can be installed or updated via Homebrew using the command `brew install ntfs-3g-mac`. However, be aware that NTFS-3G is a low-level kernel driver, and while it has been compiled for Apple Silicon by the Homebrew maintainers, the official NTFS-3G project (the upstream source) has not received significant updates in recent years. Since today is May 2026, you have time before Apple removes Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028). If your current installation works, it will likely continue to work on Apple Silicon Macs through that deadline. If you experience issues or want to ensure a forward-compatible solution, consider using Mounty 2 (a graphical front-end for NTFS-3G that handles the installation via Homebrew automatically) or exploring commercial alternatives like Tuxera NTFS for Mac, iBoysoft NTFS for Mac, or DoYourData NTFS for Mac, which offer native Apple Silicon builds and may provide more reliable long-term support.
