Blackboard Collaborate Launcher

Blackboard Collaborate's primary delivery method is now browser-based — the platform works directly through modern web browsers without requiring a separate desktop launcher application. If you are still using the Collaborate Launcher, Blackboard no longer prioritises or updates the desktop helper and there is no native Apple Silicon build. Rather than waiting for a native update that may never arrive, the most practical approach is to access Blackboard Collaborate through Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or Edge directly — all of which run natively on Apple Silicon and will continue to work after Apple removes Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028). Simply log into your institution's Blackboard portal and launch sessions from the Collaborate tools within your course pages. This removes the dependency on the old launcher entirely and gives you access to all the same features — virtual sessions, screen sharing, chat, and recordings — through your web browser. If your institution has custom configurations or legacy integrations that specifically require the launcher, contact your IT department or your institution's learning technology support team to discuss whether a web-only workflow is available or whether a native desktop client is in active development.
