About This App

Guitar Rig 5 is a VST plugin for audio production software that emulates electric guitar amplifiers, cabinets, and effects processors. It is developed by Native Instruments GmbH and is used by musicians, producers and audio engineers in Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) to model vintage and modern guitar rigs for recording, mixing, and live performance. The plugin provides amp models, cabinet simulations, and effects chains that can be inserted into a DAW's mixer for real-time or offline processing of guitar and other instrument signals.

Guitar Rig 5 has been discontinued by Native Instruments and is no longer officially supported on current macOS versions or Apple Silicon Macs. Native Instruments confirmed in 2025 that Guitar Rig 5 is not supported on current Mac operating systems and also not on Silicon Macs — the plugin will not function reliably, even under Rosetta 2. Since this is a VST plugin (not a standalone app), you cannot update it independently; however, updating the host DAW itself will not resolve the issue because the underlying Guitar Rig 5 plugin is no longer maintained. When Apple removes Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028), any Intel-only copy of Guitar Rig 5 will stop loading entirely. Your best path forward is to upgrade to Guitar Rig 6 or Guitar Rig 7, which Native Instruments actively supports and supplies as native Apple Silicon builds through Native Access. If you are a Native Instruments Komplete subscriber, both newer versions are included in your subscription and can be installed via Native Access. Alternatively, if your workflow is heavily dependent on Guitar Rig 5 presets, you can export your presets and import them into Guitar Rig 6, which maintains backward compatibility with most Guitar Rig 5 patches.
