Guitar Rig 5

Guitar Rig 5 has been discontinued by Native Instruments and is not officially supported on current macOS versions or Apple Silicon Macs. Native Instruments' own support articles confirm that Guitar Rig 5 is not compatible with modern systems, and even when installed, it often opens as a demo version on M-series Macs due to licensing and architecture incompatibilities. Because this is an AAX plugin, it does not update independently — it requires the host Pro Tools to launch it. Pro Tools native builds (version 2023.6 and later) run natively on Apple Silicon, but Guitar Rig 5 itself cannot run inside them in any reliable way. Since Apple is removing Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028), Guitar Rig 5 will stop functioning entirely on that release. Your best path forward is to upgrade to Guitar Rig 6 or Guitar Rig 7, both of which are actively maintained and fully compatible with native Pro Tools on Apple Silicon. You can obtain these through Native Instruments' Native Access manager — log in, locate Guitar Rig 6 or 7 in your products list (if not already purchased, they are available for purchase), and let Native Access download and install the current native build. This will preserve your workflow while ensuring compatibility with Pro Tools and future macOS releases. If you have presets saved in Guitar Rig 5 format, Guitar Rig 6 and later can import them during setup.
