About This App

YAMAHA-USBMIDIDriver is a CoreMIDI driver (MIDI system extension) for macOS that enables communication between Yamaha USB MIDI keyboards, controllers, and other USB MIDI devices and the host Mac's audio/music production software. It installs into the system's MIDI driver folder (/Library/Audio/MIDI Drivers/) and allows DAWs, notation software, and other MIDI applications to recognize and control Yamaha USB instruments without additional configuration. A native Apple Silicon build has been confirmed running on Macs in the Rosetta Check community.

A native Apple Silicon build of the YAMAHA-USBMIDIDriver is already confirmed in use on Apple Silicon Macs, so Yamaha has shipped an updated version. The driver is part of the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver package. Download the latest installer from Yamaha's support website for your specific Yamaha device model, making sure to select the version compatible with your macOS release — recent builds (V3.1.1 and later) include native Apple Silicon support alongside Intel compatibility. Run the installer, which will automatically place the native driver into the correct system location. If your Yamaha device appears in macOS System Settings → General → Profiles (for driver installation confirmation) but MIDI applications do not yet detect it, restart the affected MIDI applications or restart your Mac. The native build will give you better performance and battery life compared to running the Intel-only driver under Rosetta 2, and will continue to work when Apple removes Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028).
