About This App

Absynth 5 is a semi-modular software synthesizer from Native Instruments known for its ability to generate complex, evolving textures, atmospheric pads, and lush soundscapes. It combines three independently routable channels, each capable of subtractive, FM, wavetable, and sampling synthesis, and is particularly favoured by electronic music producers and ambient sound designers. The plugin features a 68-stage envelope system, granular effects, sound mutation tools, and a library of over 2,100 factory presets. Absynth 5 is available as both a standalone application and as a plugin (VST, AU) for use within digital audio workstations.

Native Instruments officially discontinued Absynth 5 in September 2022 and has not shipped a native Apple Silicon build. The Intel-only version can still run on M-series Macs under Rosetta 2 today, but Apple is removing Rosetta 2 in macOS 28 (September 2028), after which Absynth 5 will stop launching entirely. The good news is that Native Instruments has resurrected Absynth with a brand-new version 6, released in late 2025, which includes native Apple Silicon support as a core feature. Absynth 6 is a complete ground-up rewrite by the original developer, Brian Clevinger, maintaining backward compatibility with Absynth 5 presets while adding a redesigned interface, improved synthesis engines, new modulation capabilities, and fresh presets. If you own a license to Absynth 5 (from an older Komplete bundle), contact Native Instruments about upgrade pricing to Absynth 6, or visit their website to learn more about the new version. Absynth 6 is the clear path forward and will continue to be supported on current and future macOS releases.
