About This App

MetaTV is a metadata tagging utility for macOS that automatically enriches MP4 and M4V video files with professional TV show information. It retrieves episode titles, air dates, actor listings, overviews and cover artwork from TVDB (The TV Database), then embeds this metadata directly into video files so they display properly in iTunes and other media libraries. Users drag-and-drop video files into MetaTV's episode list, search for their TV show, select the correct season, and apply the gathered metadata in a single click. It is commonly used by people organising personal video collections or ripped TV series.

MetaTV shows no signs of active development — the search results reference an app from Appfacture with reviews dating back several years, and there is no evidence of recent updates or a native Apple Silicon build. Rosetta 2 will be removed in macOS 28 (September 2028), at which point this Intel-only build will stop launching entirely. Contact Appfacture directly to ask whether a native build is planned. If the vendor confirms no update is coming, consider alternatives: Plex can automatically organise and tag TV shows and movies, though it requires a Plex Media Server; Infuse (available on the App Store) is a paid media player that automatically fetches metadata and artwork and runs natively on Apple Silicon; or Kaleidescape (if you have professional-grade home-theatre hardware) offers high-end metadata and playback. If the vendor releases a native build before September 2028, updating will let you keep using MetaTV after Rosetta is removed.
