MetaTrader 4 on macOS is distributed as a Wine-wrapped application, not a native binary. The official installer bundles Wine and configures it automatically, creating a virtual logical drive to run the Windows executable. While this approach works on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs (via Rosetta 2), it relies on two layers of translation on M-series machines: Wine on top of Rosetta 2. The application will continue to function this way under Rosetta 2 until Apple removes Rosetta in macOS 28 (September 2028), at which point the Wine wrapper and its embedded Windows binary will no longer launch. MetaQuotes has not released a true native Apple Silicon build of MetaTrader 4. If you trade actively on a Mac, contact your broker or MetaQuotes directly to ask whether a native macOS or native Apple Silicon version is planned before the Rosetta 2 removal deadline. As a contingency, you may also evaluate MetaTrader 5, which some sources suggest may have better long-term support prospects, or research whether your broker offers alternative native trading platforms for macOS.
